Can you share your journey within Revel, highlighting key roles and projects what you’ve been involved?
I joined Revel back in 2016 as a support agent. In the span of 18 months, I’ve worked as a Tier 1 and Tier 2 support agent, and it has been quite a journey! Each day was different with various tasks and challenges and each day taught me something new. As time passed, I became eager for new growth.
I enjoyed working with people and developed good relationships with agents until then. So, after hearing what a day in the life of a team lead was like, I decided to internally apply for this position and got it! This was a completely new experience for me.
I became a people lead and this was my new horizon. Managing the expectations and aspirations of both the agents and the business, interviewing new candidates, as well as helping existing ones were difficult, yet gratifying, tasks.
After some time I got a new opportunity to grow within Revel company. Going to Quality Assurance was the next logical step, seeing as I wanted to get in front of the issues happening to our customers. I currently work as a Quality Assurance manager for several engineering teams, helping establish testing procedures and frameworks, as well as providing perspective throughout the development process.
What motivated you in each of these steps?
Curiosity and eagerness for new learning were always the things that I valued most. So, for me, the biggest motivators are taking on new challenges, dealing with the unknowns, and gaining new skills to develop further.
Was it difficult to show your flexibility and adaptability while adapting to different teams? How did you do that successfully?
Not really. The key point is to be open and tolerant, ask questions, and try to understand people’s perspectives. You need to pay close attention and adapt to each team’s dynamic and communication style.
What do you enjoy the most at the company?
I would say that the most important thing for me hasn’t changed since 2016 when I started working at the company. People!! In all the areas I have worked in within the company, people were the key!
Secondly is the opportunity to grow and succeed in my career. I do appreciate the career perspectives provided by my company.
And the third – here you can always learn something new and in all the years spent at Revel, it never got boring.
If you could go back in time and give one piece of advice to yourself on the first day when you started at Revel, what would it be and why?
Honestly, there is nothing I would change from all the experiences I had at the company. Each day was worth being here. The only advice I would give myself is to trust myself and get ready for a hell of a ride!
What are the main skills needed to make a career at Product Engineering – QA department?
It depends on what you are focusing on. The QA team has various roles, and different tools are used in different projects.
Working in the QA department at Revel, product knowledge comes in handy all the time. Knowing all the different areas just a little bit helps you as a QA specialist to cover more edge cases and deliver the best product possible to our client. The QA team member should have a great eye for the details, out of the box thinking, be a team player, and communicate well, those are the few skills needed.
Don’t forget QA automation, which is one of the most important things. With such a big product as ours, automation is greatly needed in all areas of the project. Simply testing by hand would take an insanely long time. So, knowing the basics of programming brings great value!
Could you share any hints for those who would like to change their career to tech?
Certainly! Transitioning to a career in the tech industry can be challenging but absolutely achievable with the right approach. If you are looking for a change, here are my few points:
Do as much research as possible to know exactly what you are walking into
Take some online courses to see how you feel about the area you are choosing
Network and talk with people from the same area to get insights into their day-to-day work
There are no easy ways to change your life or your career and reach your dream. There’s gonna be difficulties, shoals, and uncertainties. Don’t push yourself to exhaustion; do everything with the flow, trust yourself, and believe in yourself, and you definitely will reach what you are seeking.
And please remember, you are not alone and there’s always great support from the Women Go Tech community!
